New fortnightly mainly traditional English folk music tune session at Duke of York, Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset great success last night 17th Aug 2011

Following the demise of the fortnightly Bell Inn session in nearby village of Ash, musicians, singers and supporters of the outgoing landlady Caz (see centre of photo on right) turned out in force to play traditional English tunes and, later in the evening, traditional folk songs and, in a packed and very hot main bar, even medleys of old favourite pop songs with strong audience participation.

It is hard to imagine that the relocated session could have got off to a better start. There was enough space for the musicians and singers to play in the main bar which is always better than being relegated to a side room and the bar staff were friendly and welcoming.

It is always sad when a traditional folk music playing session has to leave a pub and there are many reasons for it to happen. However, session host Martin Hughes and Geoff Turnbull have found a great alternative at the Duke of York, Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset and it's even a bit closer for me to get to :-)

It's always worth checking with the pub beforehand, especially if you are travelling because venues do change, but if you are looking for a well hosted traditional English folk music session in the Taunton, Bridgwater, Yeovil area, you might consider checking out this excellent mainly traditional English folk music tune session. However, don't be surprised if there are also tunes from other traditions such as Klezmer, French and a bit of Irish (but not much) not to mention possibly an enthusiastic rendition of some favourite nostalgic pop songs from the pub locals.

Thank you Rob.

You are amazing people and your incredible talents would make an amazing evening anywhere.

It was an enormously enjoyable evening for us all last night. Not only to see and hear you all...... It was the first time I actually got to get "amongst the music" rather than working and enjoying it at the same time. Caz
