10th Year for Second Wednesday International Folk Music pub session host Martin Hughes now at Bell Inn, Ash, Near Martock, Somerset, UK

At a packed, popular and very successful pub folk music session last night, resident host Martin Hughes announced that he was now in his 10th year of running these sessions in the area and generously thanked the participants 'without whom the wonderful traditional pub folk music sessions over the years wouldn't have been possible'.

Originally largely a traditional English folk music session, this fortnightly gathering's success probably lies in its flexibility and the range of tunes these days which often includes almost anything that the participants want to play. Additionally, whenever the musicians at the session run out of ideas for tunes, or occasionally a song, Martin Hughes is always ready to step in with a quick flurry of well chosen tunes from his own amazing repertoire from the folk traditions of France, England and elsewhere.

Located close to the A303, the Bell Inn, Ash near Martock is a convenient place for people to get to from many directions and, based on my experience, those looking for a well run traditional English session which isn't afraid to experiment with other traditions such as French, Klezmer etc. and a welcoming host are unlikely to be disappointed.
