Last Night's Fun 'Played a Storm' at Wessex Folk Festival 2008 Friday Concert

At the beginning of the Wessex Folk Festival 2008 weekend, in tranquil warm weather as the sun shone down on the Old Harbour, Last Night's Fun 'played a storm' at Hope Church, Weymouth, in the words of Pauline Clenshaw, Wessex Folk Festival organiser and concert compere, and I must say that I agree.

Hope Church also proved acoustically magnificent and splendidly showcased Last Night's Fun's astonishing musicianship to a packed and appreciative audience.

Folk music is at its best when it puts a smile on an audience's face and the constant wry wit that flowed in between sparkling tunes and captivating songs proved beyond any doubt that Last Night's Fun is a band that is at the very best end of the folk music scene.

The Sailor's Return 'super group', Camilla and the Can Openers (Nigel Canter, Pam Dentith and Paul Openshaw, below) ably supported Last Night's Fun. Pam's radiant singing voice, reaching out across the hushed audience to the gallery seats where I sat, will long remain for me a vivid memory.

In an intimate setting with wonderful acoustics and great performances to an appreciative audience, Friday night's concert at Hope Church set the Wessex Folk Festival off to a great start.

Bye for now
