Woohooh! My family have bought me a weekend ticket for the English Country Music Weekend at Whimple, Devon 20th - 22nd June 2008 as a Father's Day present.
I've heard lots about these meet-ups which take place at different venues each time and come highly recommended by people I respect. This weekend, I will be finding out for myself.
So I will be packing my flute and soprano sax into my camper-van and heading off to Whimple in East Devon, hopefully for a weekend of unbridled sessioning shoulder to shoulder with some of the best English traditional folk musicians in the country.
Among featured big names are Jason Rice of the Dartmoor Pixie Band and my good friends John and Wendy of the Hips and Haws Country Dance Band who are based near Tiverton, Devon (picture top right).
More information about the ECMW 2008 can be found on the excellent Musical Traditions site together with a booking form. My family bought a full weekend ticket to include my rusty old camper-van for just over twenty pounds so it won't break the bank :-)
Since Whimple is just off the A30, about 10 miles east of Exeter and not too far from Honiton, hopefully my trusty old transit camper-van will survive the journey.
Perhaps see you there.
Bye for now
