Pauline Clenshaw and Pat Green, part of the Local Strangers singers, joined in at the Kings Arms, Weymouth bash held in the run up to the Wessex Folk Festival 6 - 8 June 2008 and brought the house down with their rendering of 'Poverty Knock' and other gently bawdy songs.
Both these wonderful ladies, when they are not raising the roof with their singing, play major parts in the organisation of the Wessex Folk Festival. Multi-talented indeed :-)
By the way, I always thought the name of the song was 'Poverty Knocks' but a quick check over at that excellent institution for folk music singers The Mudcat Cafe informed me that the 's' should be left off. Well done mudcatters, as always a wonderful source of information :-)
Local Strangers will be appearing in various guises at the Wessex Folk Music Festival and are definitely an act worth watching out for.
Bye for now
