Best folk music sessions in Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall

One of the things that characterises the best folk music joining in sessions is the way the regulars welcome newcomers or musicians and singers who are just visiting.

Last night (28th May 2008), I attended the regular bi-weekly pub traditional music playing session run by Martin Hughes at the Wheatsheaf Inn at South Petherton. I am a regular by now, although I have only been there a few times, but there was a young teenage girl passing through who had dropped in with her family and her violin.

Martin Hughes gave these visitors a fabulous welcome, chatted to them and welcomed the young musician into our midst.

Martin gets the Hopcott High Five for Session Friendliness and my nomination for one of the best folk music sessions in Somerset :-)

Well done Martin!

On another subject, I mentioned the Wessex Folk Festival at the session and several of the musicians were planning to attend the pub joining in sessions over the weekend of the 6 - 8 June 2008. This excellent local folk music festival seems to be growing in popularity.

Bye for now

Do you know of a friendly folk music joining in session you would like to praise?
