Sidmouth Sailing Club Folk Musicians Reunion April 11th - 12th 2008

What a wonderful Friday evening and Saturday we had at the Sidmouth Sailing Club Folk Musicians Reunion last weekend.

Organised by the intrepid and hardworking members of the Loose Knit Band, the ambiance of the weekend was warm and friendly.

Tunes were played at a very measured dance speed entirely suited to all levels of musicianship and everyone was invited to start a tune as they wished.

The view from the Sidmouth Sailing Club balcony was great. (I've cheated by including a photograph above that I took in August during the main festival - well, I liked the sailing boats :-))

In the course of the weekend I got to know lots of the members of the Loose Knit Band and am particularly looking forward to joining in with squeeze box player Martin at one of his home ground sessions at Somerton or South Petherton soon.

With so many accordions and melodeons in one room, sometimes a single wind instrument can be drowned out. Not so at the Sailing Club reunion. I played some lovely lilty tunes both on the flute and on my soprano sax and everybody joined in perfectly with loads of musical sensitively. It was a joy to play with them.

The main Sidmouth Folk Festival in August offers so much and I shall be very much torn between the Radway and the Sailing Club when August 2008 arrives.

Hey ho! Being torn between two sets of great folk musician sessions is such a cross to bear :-)

Roll on Sidmouth Folk Week - I can't wait and a big thanks to Terry, Martin, Bill and all the others for making the Sidmouth Sailing Club reunion such a great event.

Bye for now.

Rob

N.B. Because the Sailing Club is a private club, it is necessary to get an invitation to attend so that Bill and his friends have a list of attendees to comply with the club regulations.
