What a fantastic time I had at the Radway Sidmouth Folk Festival Reunion 2008. It was wonderful to play along with so many expert English folk musicians. There was a wonderfully relaxed and friendly atmosphere and a couple of 'Sidmouth moments' when the music was so good that the hair stood up on the back of ones neck.
It was my first reunion and will I be back next year? You bet I will! All due credit to Chris Timson for all his organisational hard work.
I was up at dawn and raring to get started and the promenade was beautifully empty and atmospheric for my morning walk.We played from 8pm Friday 22nd February until closing time. We started again at 11am on Saturday and finished at closing time and then, again, on Sunday, we played from midday until late afternoon.
On my way back to my lowly camper van, I stopped by at the Anchor pub and chatted briefly to one of the Anchor reunion singers. Apparently some of them were going off to another pub afterwards to carry on the music.
Sadly, knowing I had a long drive back to Somerset, I declined the invitation to join in.
The Sidmouth Folk festival reunion has a very special quality and I am really looking forward to the main Sidmouth Folk Festival in the summer.
However, joy oh joy, there is another reunion I heard about being held at the Yacht Club in April. I must trawl through my contacts and find out the dates.
Bye for now
Rob
